Hydrangea Arborescens Hydrangea arborescens prefers shade and moisture, but is surprisingly adaptable. It is native to shady woodlands of the Southeastern US, and can spread into a large clump over time. Flowers are chartreuse in bud, turning white, and then back to light green. (pH is not a factor in the color.) These hydrangeas can be pruned heavily, as they bloom on NEW wood.
